Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation Manager, Suzanne Harmelink, Honored with National Weatherization Award

MADISON, Wis. (August 30, 2009) - Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC), a national leader in the design and implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, is pleased to announce that Suzanne Harmelink, low income senior program manager, received the U.S. Department of Energy National Weatherization Recognition Award at the 2009 National Weatherization Training Conference.

The National Weatherization Recognition Award acknowledges outstanding contributions that advance the goals of the Weatherization Assistance Program through individual or group achievement, inspiration, or innovation.

"Suzanne has devoted nearly 20 years to helping improve the safety, efficiency, and comfort of the homes of low-income residents of Wisconsin. She has led the development of innovative and highly effective programs that have served as models throughout the nation," said Mary Woolsey Schlaefer, executive director for WECC. "WECC is honored to have Suzanne as part of our team and congratulates Suzanne on this well-deserved recognition."

Among her many accomplishments, Harmelink led the development of the Targeted Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Program, which helps homeowners with limited incomes improve the comfort and energy efficiency of their homes at minimal cost, using both local weatherization agencies and private contractors to provide these services. The program has received national recognition and served as a model for other programs in the nation. In addition, Harmelink has developed and coordinated hundreds of weatherization trainings for the Wisconsin Low Income Weatherization and Energy Assistance program, which is funded and administered by the State of Wisconsin Department of Administration - Division of Energy Services. Many of those training materials and models have been utilized in other programs elsewhere in the country.

"It's an honor to be recognized amongst so many great nominees for the accomplishments that I've been fortunate enough to be a part of," Harmelink said. "I've had the privilege to guide a great team and have a significant impact on the weatherization efforts in Wisconsin for nearly 20 years."
