Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation Honored with 'Champion of Energy Efficiency' Award
Nonprofit organization joins elite national group of leaders in energy efficie

MADISON, Wis. (Thursday, September 16, 2004) - Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC), was recently honored by the American Council for an Energy–Efficient Economy (ACEEE) as a 2004 Champion of Energy Efficiency. According to Bill Prindle, deputy director of ACEEE, "The awards recognize outstanding achievement and leadership in the field of energy, and energy efficiency."

"We are happy to be recognized by ACEEE for our dedication to promoting the value of energy efficiency," said Janet Brandt, WECC executive director. "We recognize the substantial economic and environmental benefits of energy efficiency and we will continue to work hard to promote energy efficient products and services throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest."

WECC, a nonprofit organization based in Madison, WI, works to ensure that customers can benefit from high quality and affordable opportunities for increased energy efficiency, and that private businesses can profitably deliver energy efficiency goods and services to their customers. For example:

  • WECC has partnered with over 800 retailers in Wisconsin, both large and small, to increase sales of ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances and lighting.
  • Currently, WECC is implementing a regional lighting campaign across 7 Midwestern states that has the potential to save 79,200,000 kilowatt hours of electricity.
  • Last year, the combined impact of WECC's energy efficiency efforts saved over 112 million kWh.
  • Since 1999, Energy Finance Solutions, (EFS) has helped homeowners finance over $46 million worth of energy efficient home improvements.
  • For nearly 25 years, WECC has been designing and implementing energy efficiency programs across the country on behalf of energy utilities, public advocacy groups and state and federal government agencies.
