Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC) Breaks Ground With New Energy Efficient Home
Building is one of the first LEED Gold Certified building in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. (June 14, 2006) - Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC), broke ground today for its new energy efficient commercial office building. The 34,000 square foot facility will be located at University Research Park in Madison and is designed to achieve a Gold Level certification through the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Environmental Design (LEED) program. Mayor Dave Cieslewicz was on hand to celebrate WECC's new high– performance facility and to recognize environmental leadership in the building industry.

The new office building's high-performance design demonstrates a truly "green" facility. Key LEED features include minimal site disturbance, optimal daylight provided to 75 percent or more of the work spaces, water efficient landscaping and plumbing fixtures, and energy efficient mechanical systems with commissioning for long term system performance. In addition, at least 75 percent of construction waste will be recycled.

WECC is a national leader in designing and implementing energy efficiency and renewable energy programs. "We were presented with a unique opportunity when we began planning for our new office building," said Janet Brandt, Executive Director at WECC. "Over the past 25 years of our history, we've promoted the innovative technologies and practices that create high performance buildings. By setting such high standards for our new facility, we finally have a chance to demonstrate that sustainable design is not only achievable, but affordable for all new commercial construction. Furthermore, we hope to educate other building owners on how green and sustainable features can have a positive effect on employee health and productivity. Today is a real celebration of our continued commitment to our community and to the economic and environmental health of Wisconsin."

WECC is working with the design/build team of Vogel Brothers Building Co. and Eppstein Uhen Architects to construct their new headquarters. Vogel Bros. Building Co. has provided quality construction services for over 77 years. The firm offers expertise in the construction of LEED certified buildings and worked on the first LEED's certified rating in the state of Wisconsin. With nearly 100 years of experience, Eppstein Uhen Architects is one of Wisconsin's largest and most diverse architectural firms. Other members of the design/build team include Arnold & O'Sheridan, assisting on the engineering for the project, RMI/ENSAR, consulting on the LEED process and Sustainable Engineering, serving as the building commissioning authority.
