MADISON, Wis. (April 28, 2003) - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced Wisconsin ENERGY STAR Homes, part of Wisconsin's Focus on Energy program, as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year winner at an April 15, 2003 awards ceremony. Recognized for its outstanding contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by promoting energy efficient new residential construction, Wisconsin ENERGY STAR Homes has certified more than 1,300 homes, each of which keeps 4,500 pounds of greenhouse gases out of the air every year.
On a national level, in 2001, Americans, through the ENERGY STAR homes program, saved enough energy to power 10 million homes, reduced air pollution the equivalent of taking 12 million cars off the road and saved $6 billion in energy related costs.
"Wisconsin ENERGY STAR Homes is pleased to be a part of the ENERGY STAR program," said Greg Nahn, program manager for Wisconsin ENERGY STAR Homes. "We are proud to be associated with a program that allows Wisconsin residents to build homes that are comfortable, safe, durable and energy efficient."
The award is given to a variety of organizations in recognition of their efforts to build energy efficient homes that provide significant cost savings to consumers and benefit the environment. The winners are selected from more than 7,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.
"EPA is proud to recognize programs such as Wisconsin ENERGY STAR Homes with an ENERGY STAR Award," said Kathleen Hogan, director of EPA's Climate Protection Partnerships Division. "They have shown tremendous leadership in helping Americans move into new homes that are better for the environment as well as less costly to own.
