Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation earns award for energy efficiency on the 10th Anniversary of ENERGY STAR®
MADISON, Wis. (March 22, 2001) - A Wisconsin energy efficiency organization is being honored by the US Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR® program for excellence in educating consumers about energy conservation.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC) as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for its commitment to educating consumers about energy efficiency and for its role in helping Americans save money and reduce pollution. WECC will be recognized at a special 10th Anniversary awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 26, 2002.
The National ENERGY STAR Award is given by the Environmental Protection Agency to recognize outstanding efforts in protecting the environment through energy efficiency. WECC, a partner in the ENERGY STAR program since 1998, is being honored for its leadership in increasing awareness and understanding about energy efficiency and ENERGY STAR through a comprehensive marketing and consumer education program designed to promote products and homes that carry the ENERGY STAR label.
In 2001, through the Wisconsin ENERGY STAR Program, enough energy was saved to meet the electric needs of over 1,200 homes and the air pollution reduced was the equivalent of removing 1,652 cars from the road. Wisconsinites also saved thousands on their energy bills without sacrificing product features, quality, or personal comfort.
"We are pleased to be a part of the ENERGY STAR program," said WECC Executive Director Janet Brandt. "By building homes and purchasing appliances and lighting products that carry the ENERGY STAR label, we save millions of dollars each year, and reduce the amount of pollution generated."
The ENERGY STAR Award is given to a variety of organizations to recognize their efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce pollution, resulting in significant cost savings. This year, ENERGY STAR is celebrating a decade of environmental protection through voluntary participation by leading U.S. businesses and organizations.

Climate Protection Partnership Division. "Their commitment to educating American consumers about energy efficiency
is helping people across the country save money and protect the environment for future generations."
