Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation Applauds Assembly Committee Recommendation
Assembly Energy and Utilities Committee Supports Passage of SB 459 in a 10-to-0 vote

MADISON, Wis. (March 3, 2006) - Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC) commends the Assembly Energy and Utilities Committee's 10-to-0 vote to recommend State Assembly passage of bill SB 459. The bill, which passed last week in a 32-to-1 vote at the State Senate level, recognizes and supports the important role of energy efficiency and renewable energy in Wisconsin.

"The recommendation from the Assembly Committee reinforces the message sent by the Senate that energy efficiency and renewable energy can help control Wisconsin's long–term energy costs," said Janet Brandt, WECC Executive Director. "Saving energy costs about half as much as generating new energy. Passage of SB 459 through the full Assembly will ensure that Wisconsin appropriately invests in these cheaper sources of energy and that this investment will be protected from future funding diversions."

WECC would especially like to acknowledge the work of Representative Phil Montgomery (R– Ashwaubenon) for his leadership on this important piece of legislation in the Assembly. In addition WECC also applauds the members of the Assembly Committee for making such a strong recommendation to the full Assembly.
