MADISON, Wis. (February 20, 2006) - The five-to-zero vote to recommend State Senate passage of bill SB
459 is being applauded today by the Wisconsin Energy Conservation Corporation (WECC). The bill recognizes and
supports the important role in Wisconsin for energy efficiency and renewable energy to help control our energy
prices, increase economic development and provide significant environmental benefits.
"This bill is an excellent example of the progress we can make with a strong collaborative approach to the critical
issues facing our state," said Janet Brandt, WECC Executive Director. "Consumers and businesses across Wisconsin
have sounded the alarm on rising energy costs and declared their support for secure and adequate funding for energy
efficiency and renewable energy to control long–term energy costs. The Senate Committee's unanimous vote sends a
strong message that our leaders have listened to their constituents and are ready to ensure speedy passage."
WECC would especially like to acknowledge the work of Senator Robert Cowles (R– Green Bay) and Representative Phil
Montgomery (R– Ashwaubenon) for their commitment and leadership on this important piece of legislation.
